Brief History of Walton
Hall
The Walton Hall estate was purchased
by Edward Greenall in 1812 and the
family made their mark on the
brewing industry, firstly in St
Helens and then in Warrington. His
son Gilbert Greenall first lived at
Walton Hall after it was built in
the 1830’s. Gilbert was a
Warrington Brewer who adopted the
lifestyle of a country squire with
great success and earned the title
of ‘Lord Daresbury’.
The hall was built to the design of
Edmund Sharp of Lancaster and is in
mock Elizabethan style. Further
modifications where made in the
1870’s including the addition of the
clock tower and an extra wing in the
gothic style. The Greenall family
sold the estate in 1941 and while
tenants bought some of the farms the
hall and land for the present park
and golf course was purchased by
Warrington Borough Council.
This property is set in the most
fantastic grounds, which includes a
lake, beautiful gardens, a wonderful
maze. The building itself is open to
the public and is also used as a
function house, with a visitors
reception area and fully licensed
bar, this location is great be it
for a day out, or a paranormal
investigation
