The Edinburgh Vaults are a
fascinating set of rooms hidden
beneath the streets of the city
centre. Access is via a single
door lost between the pubs and
bars of Blair street.
The tour operator
MERCAT TOURS are the only
company with access to the vaults.
Once again we were greeted at the
Mercat cross outside St Giles
cathedral on the Royal Mile. Our
host was Robert, who had taken our
previous vigil in August.
He took us
towards the vaults which once again
were to be our home for the night
Due to a minor flood problem, we
were located in a previously
shut down room. This room had
been renovated and at first
seemed welcoming, this was soon
to change. Both myself and
Keith's (a paranormal
investigator) temperatures
rocketed, with pounding head
aches ensuing. I felt sick and
dizzy, and knew this was the
room to be in if we had any
chance of catching activity.
After the initial
walk around, we were assigned the
rest room to start with, a great
choice we were not going to argue
with. With all lights off, and 3 of
our group forming a circle in the
centre of the room, we proceeded to
record the nights events.
And it did not
take long, within minutes our most
sceptical member proceeded to
witness a ring of white lights,
followed by a red orb in the far
right corner of the room, the orb
was also witnessed by Keith.
I began to feel a
presence within this room, but not
someone who belonged there but
actually related to one of our
members, for personal reasons i
shall not mention any names, as this
cannot be confirmed.
Shortly after and
caught on film two events happened,
firstly Tricia heard a hissing noise
and moved quickly from her seat.
After reviewing the footage caught
on tape, you can indeed hear both a
sigh followed by a hissing noise.
This footage will be posted shortly.
Also caught on
film and witnessed by all in our
group, were two separate beams of
blue white light that appear
crossing the ceiling. No one was
using a torch, and it had to be
coming from inside this room. There
was no explanation for these lights.
As it was time we moved on, we
frequented the small rooms, the
double height room, which Keith
sensed a presence in, although
no footage was caught, except an
orb near the door where the
watcher is said to overlook. And
the tavern. The usual smell of
beer was witnessed by all, which
came and went in fractions of
time. Next was the rear corri
Again the rear corridor,
dark and very moody,
provided us with some
interesting orbs caught on
camera, the usual dust
theory was laid to rest as
we tried to simulate the
effect with no results
ensuing. This footage
hopefully will also be made
available. Tricia once
again caught an interesting
light effect emanating from
the fire escape.
We then moved
on to the cobblers room formerly
the safe room, as an experiment
Daniel (unaware of the history)
was asked to stand on the pile
of rocks in the far right corner
of the room. To ensure all dust
had settled we waited before
taking any pictures, and while i
do frown upon orb pictures, we
do capture a faint orb hovering
above him to the right
As time had moved fast, we were
taken back upstairs for a break,
before having "free time".
we started again
in the first rest room, and held a
supervised séance, managed by our
medium Andy. Nothing spectacular
happened, and was very quiet, Rob
does seem affected, and again a
personal name
was brought forward which did
relate to a member of the
circle. After closing the séance
we all moved to the White room,
Rob sticking close by. Many
weird experiences occurred in
this room, both Rob and Tricia
felt a cold wet feeling brush
past them, about leg height. The
temperature changed but seemed
to centre around Rob, i got the
feeling of a fog coming down
from the ceiling of the white
room, but these were nothing to
the two events which were to
occur next.
Upon the feeling
of being scratched, i looked towards
Tricia, and for a split second i saw
a male, with long blonde curly hair.
There was no one between us but this
image was vivid, and scared the life
out of me.
But of all the
footage the has captured our
emotions the most, and in fact those
of the hosts and fellow members was
the video footage of a snake like
light which darted across the room
and back out, and then repeated.
albeit fainter. This was no insect,
no orb, just pure energy, and like
Rob stated, footage like non other
he has seen from the vaults.
It proved to be a
great conclusion to the night.
Although to this day no one does
know who was generating the
footsteps above us, when all were
accounted for in the room. Very Very
spooky.
